Privacy Policy

This site, journeywithjoshua.com, is run by Joshua Walther ("I", "me", "Journey with Joshua"). This page explains what information is collected when you visit, how it is used, and the choices you have. If you have a question, reach me at josh@journeywithjoshua.com.

The short version

This is a personal trip report and photography site. I do not run user accounts, I do not ask you to log in, and I do not sell your personal information. The site is static, so most data handling happens through a few trusted service providers described below.

Information collected

Server and security logs. The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like most web infrastructure, Cloudflare automatically records standard technical data such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages requested. This is used to serve the site, keep it secure, and understand traffic in aggregate. I do not use it to identify you personally.

Analytics. I may use privacy-respecting, aggregate analytics to see which pages are popular and how the site performs. Any such analytics are used in aggregate and are not used to build a profile of you as an individual.

Fonts. The site currently loads fonts from Google Fonts. When fonts load, your browser contacts Google's servers, which may receive your IP address as part of that request. I do not control Google's handling of that data.

Email. If you email me, I receive your message and email address so I can reply. I keep correspondence only as long as needed to handle it.

Affiliate links and cookies

Some links on this site, mostly on gear pages and within trip reports, are affiliate links. When you click one, the affiliate network (such as AvantLink or the Amazon Associates program) may set a cookie in your browser so that any resulting purchase is credited to this site. That cookie is set by the network on your outbound click, not before. If you buy something through one of these links, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. These networks operate under their own privacy policies, which govern the data they collect once you leave this site. I encourage you to review them.

Managing cookies

You can control or clear cookies through your browser settings, and you can block them entirely. Blocking affiliate cookies will not break the site. It simply means a purchase you make after clicking a link may not be credited here.

Third-party services

This site relies on a small number of third parties to function: Cloudflare for hosting, DNS, and email forwarding; Google Fonts for typography; and affiliate networks such as AvantLink and Amazon for the links described above. Pages may also link out to other sites, including Instagram. I am not responsible for the content or privacy practices of sites I link to.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information, such as the right to access or delete it. California residents have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what is collected and the right to request deletion. I do not sell personal information. To make a request, email josh@journeywithjoshua.com and I will respond as required by applicable law.

Children

This site is not directed to children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, consistent with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

Changes to this policy

I may update this policy as the site evolves or as the law requires. When I do, I will revise the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
